Corporate Carbon Advisory presents at Woolworths’ Agricultural Business Scholarship program

Corporate Carbon Advisory was invited to present at the Woolworths’ Agricultural Business Scholarship program held at the Woolworths headquarters in Sydney. The program was developed in 2007 in order to nurture the development of talent for young people involved in the agricultural sector in Australia. The program is also involved with business education for young people in agriculture.

Matthew Warnken, Managing Director of Corporate Carbon Advisory, presented on the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) program and how it works. His presentation covered carbon pricing, carbon credit creation, monetisation of carbon through the CFI, CFI methodologies, performance of the CFI scheme to date and differences between the Coalition’s Direct Action and the current Carbon Pricing Mechanism.

"It was a pleasure to present to a group of such motivated and bright young leaders from the agricultural sector. It is important to grasp the opportunity for carbon to be a key element in successful agricultural ventures in Australia and at the same time understand the complexities and challenges of getting projects through the CFI," said Matthew.

"Judging by the number of questions it seemed that the scholarship participants enjoyed [the presentation]," noted Armineh Mardirossian, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Woolworths. "It is a complex area to explain in one hour but [Matthew] did a great job."

"The CFI enjoys bipartisanship support and offers the land sector an alternative source of revenue," said Matthew. "Woolworths is to be congratulated for exposing young leaders to these opportunities, which can improve the financial and environmental viability of their supply chains."
