Corporate Carbon Advisory speaks at the Mallees, Markets and Farm Impacts conference

Matthew Warnken, Managing Director of Corporate Carbon Advisory, recently presented at the Mallees, Markets and Farm Impacts conference hosted by the Oil Mallee Association (OMA) in partnership with the Future Farm Industries Cooperative Research Centre (FFICRC). The one day conference in Perth provided an opportunity for attendees to hear about the current situation regarding carbon markets and the Federal Government’s Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) as well as to learn about the key findings of FFICRC as it nears the end of its seven year research program.

Matthew’s presentation examined opportunities to recognise Western Australia’s pioneering efforts in oil mallee plantings. Matthew also discussed some of the CFI methodologies and the potential for future methodologies.

Simon Dawkins, General Manager of the OMA said, “It was a great pleasure having Matthew speak at the conference, given his firsthand experience in successfully submitting methodologies for the CFI. We appreciate the work that Corporate Carbon has done on oil mallees to date and recognise that they have completed an incredible amount of work in submitting positive list applications [the register of abatement activities eligible to earn carbon credits under the CFI] on our behalf. We are pleased to be collaborating with Corporate Carbon in an effort to secure greenhouse gas abatement benefits for OMA members.”

The conference also presented information relating to the recently added CFI Methodology Determination ‘Quantifying carbon sequestration by permanent plantings of native mallee eucalypt species using the CFI reforestation modelling tool’.

“It was refreshing to see there is still interest in promoting the role mallee plantings can have with carbon sequestration and biofuels production. However for this interest to translate into a viable industry it is imperative that pioneers in carbon abatement such as the OMA members are rewarded for their carbon abatement activities,” said Matthew.
