ACCU Lab

To enable project participants to gain a full suite of benefits at their project site, we have created the first of its kind, interactive ‘ACCU Lab’ workshop. This process aims to maximise carbon project opportunities, such as enabling stacking of different project types.

For example, ACCU Lab can include:

  • opportunities to implement:

    • land-based activities, and

    • non-land-based methods

  • abatement calculations tutorial

  • project activities and methodologies under the CSF

  • a discussion about the range of benefits from generating ACCUs

  • requirements for successful carbon activities to achieve net zero emissions

  • co-benefits from net zero emission activities.

  • a discussion on pilot opportunities

  • financial implications of activities

The session is designed to promote discussion and to establish how carbon projects may best be suited for your needs.

Workshop participation information

Prior to the commencement of your ACCU Lab session we endeavour to provide you with a few key items that will help ensure that value is provided throughout the day: a get to know you process!

  • A team member will be in contact to discuss the process in detail over the phone or email.

You will also gain:

  • our ACCU Lab overview brochure

  • our participant itinerary

  • a Corporate Carbon Advisory ‘Company Profile’ so that you know who you will be talking to

  • a CSF flowchart that illustrates the process of a carbon project

  • an email containing our 'ACCU Lab: Registration' form, which will allow us to tailor the workshop further to your needs.

    • We aim to provide you with this form at least 14 days prior to the workshop day.

    • Our request is that you submit the details at least 7 days prior to the session in order for our team to have time to tailor the day for you.

ACCU Lab Academy

After the session you will gain our ACCU Lab accreditation certificate booklet.

  • The ACCU Lab Academy provides you with access to our team's expertise.

  • It is also a fantastic certificate to highlight your efforts to find sustainable solutions for the planet.

Why Us?

We are experienced carbon project developers and experts of the carbon sector.

We can assist in reaching your climate goals and provide a monetary return that can be fed back into the business in various ways.

  • Our ACCU Lab is the first workshop of its type.

  • We have designed it from our industry experience to unlock carbon project opportunities for you.

Our ACCU Lab approach has been highly beneficial for past projects and may lead to a broader range of opportunities than immediately realised.

  • We can conduct this workshop as a half-day session to be undertaken on a video conference call or in person.

Contact our team to organise a tailored session.

ACCU Lab case study: vegetation and biodiversity for a North Queensland council

A local council has committed to the 'Cities Power Partnership' and to take part in the 'Reef Guardian' program. The council's team has set ambitious climate goals but does not have the expertise in carbon activities, such as implementing vegetation projects.

The council has created detailed maps with the assistance of external expertise and asked CCA to review this material and to scope other opportunities for land based activities.

CCA undertook an evaluation of carbon farming and biodiversity potential, which identified a wider range of project opportunities than the council's maps initially highlighted.

These findings can enable the council to implement new activities to create biodiversity corridors in the region and generate a higher level of benefits, from both an environmental, social and economic point of view.

In addition, CCA was able to determine 'Blue Carbon' project opportunities, which adds to the initial focus that was further inland.

Other immediate opportunities in the area that were identified from the ACCU Lab assessment include:

  • collaborating with landholders for regenerative farming and soil carbon projects, and

  • energy efficiency projects through the implementation of renewable sources, including transport.

This initial assessment enables the council to make informed decisions and support carbon activities to achieve their ambitious climate objectives.

ACCU Lab case study: stacking methods for a national waste and water business

CCA has worked with this national waste company (NWC) for a number of years, including being part of emissions reduction projects in the Alternative Waste Treatment (AWT) methodology. The NWC has received many benefits from their involvement in the CSF projects.

AWT projects operate for 7 years from project implementation: the business spoke to CCA to learn about how they could stay involved in the CSF after that period.

The team at CCA met with key representatives from the NWC, learnt about their environmental and business objectives and assessed a suite of options that included carbon analysis collated from the previous years' of involvement.

Highlighted through the ACCU Lab assessment was that the NWC had not been aware of the extended crediting period allocated to waste projects, which provides revenue for emissions avoided in earlier years. Thus a 'transition funding mechanism' could be deployed.

The ongoing economic benefit provided by the AWT positions the NWC in an empowered way to initiate carbon projects in:

  • industrial electricity and fuel efficiency

  • transport

  • source separated organic waste

  • landfill gas, and others.

ACCU Lab has enabled the NWC to gain additional benefits from activities that their team wanted to implement for a variety of reasons, both from an economic and environmental perspective. Registering these activities as part of the CSF provides national verification, which can be used to promote their services as market leading.

ACCU Lab case study: unlocking carbon projects for supermarkets & supply chains

ACCU Lab has assisted in unlocking benefits for major supermarkets in Australia and through this it will enable changed practices, at a broader scope i.e. supply chains.

CCA approached a leading supermarket company (LSC) that was installing solar panels on specific store locations, to illustrate additional projects that could be undertaken.

  • Notably providing a state by state perspective to operations was a core component in the approach.

The LSC operates across all states and territories and receives state based credits in New South Wales and Victoria for energy efficiency operations. This resource is not available in other states nor in either territory.

CCA's innovative ACCU Lab approach provided a clear pathway forward to gain ACCUs under the CSF. The LSC can earn the national credits, an environmental certification that can be used to measure their sustainability goals, and gain an economic incentive from the CSF scheme.

Energy efficiency in States outside of NSW and Victoria, together with the Territories was one area that the LSC could gain verification from the proactive carbon reduction initiatives that the business set. Further areas that were explored for future implementation included:

  • transport

  • source separated organic waste, and

  • setting targets for the supply chain.

The last point above can provide a profound impact. As an LSC the business can become an enabler for change due to its buying power. Setting climate goals for suppliers can adjust habits in a national supply chain toward environmentally conscious practices for all participants.
