Corporate Carbon was proud to be a sponsor of Pormpuraaw Aboriginal Shire Council’s 2025 Community Fishing Day.

Held each April, this year’s event brought together 400 people along the Chapman River on western Cape York. The competition kicked off at 7AM and ran throughout the day, with fish measured and recorded at stations set up along the beach. Prize winners for the biggest catch in both adult and junior categories were announced in the afternoon, followed by a community dinner.

Pormpuraaw is a town of around 600 people located on Queensland’s Cape York Peninsula. It sits near several of Corporate Carbon’s operations, including Holroyd, Yarraden and Crystalvale pastoral stations. Since 2022, we’ve managed savanna fire management (SFM) carbon projects in the surrounding region and have visited the community on several occasions to engage with native title holders.

“The hall for the prize giving was full of family and friends, we heard lots of laughter and the winners were smiling,” said Pormpuraaw Council’s Shelina Bartlet. “Thank you to our sponsors for making the day possible and the success it was!”

Our team was honoured to contribute to an event that strengthens community connection and celebrates First Nations-led stewardship of country.
