Financing and scaling Africa's role in the global carbon economy
Julien Gastaldi, CEO of Maki Planet Systems, a Corporate Carbon subsidiary, recently appeared on Let’s Talk Agriculture’s carbon market podcast series. Sitting down with Sharon Nkwah, Julien spoke about the future of Africa’s participation in the global carbon economy. From investment flows to startup-driven solutions and Africa's position in the evolving global climate landscape, Julien shared a forward-looking view on how financing, innovation, and partnerships can help scale credible carbon projects across the continent.
“We prioritise progress over perfection,” he said. “Instead of waiting to establish the ideal framework, we must take the first steps and begin our journey right away.”
Touching on the challenges of building scalable, transparent carbon projects, Julien advocated for innovative startups and private sector investment, noting Africa’s opportunity to claim a strong and equitable position in the market.
“Africa’s carbon market is at an inflection point with immense potential for economic and environmental impact,” he concluded. “Partnerships are vital to manage risks and scale carbon projects successfully.”
